Bonner to host charity basketball event

MBEven in the midst of an NBA lockout, there are still some NBA players out there doing what they can to make a difference in the lives of those in their community’s and around the world.

One of those players is San Antonio Spurs’ Matt Bonner who will be hosting the “Rock the court with Matt Bonner” charity event at the University of Toronto on Saturday, September 10, 2011.

The game will be played in support of Athletes for Africa and local children’s charity St. Albany’s Boys and Girls club.

Those participating in the event are former Spur Brent Barry, Oklahoma City’s Nick Collison, Philadelphia’s Spencer Hawes, former NBA player Paul Shirley, and musicians Dallas Green of “City and Colour” along with Win Butler of “Arcade Fire.”

Bonner is a Vice President of the Player’s Union and it’s great to see that issues with the lockout don’t prevent Bonner from doing what he can to serve the community.

I’m guilty of making numerous jokes on how Bonner should be traded time and time again, but when you really sit down and think about it, Bonner is one player who embodies the Spurs’ culture to the fullest.
