In what could have been the final NBA event for quite a while last night in New Jersey at the 2011 NBA Draft, the NBA is 
facing a looming lockout and the owners and players have until the end of the month to come to an agreement.
However, according to San Antonio Spurs’ Matt Bonner, the players union vice president, it’s looking like a lockout is unavoidable:
Matt Bonner of the San Antonio Spurs, who is a union vice president, said that the owners “want everything.”
“They want extreme financial givebacks in terms of salary and a hard salary cap,” Bonner said.
In essence, the players union does not like league’s proposed “flex” cap. The union sees it as the same as a hard cap. The union also is taking umbrage at a league proposal to pay players a minimum of $2 billion annually over 10 years.
The clock is ticking on the NBA. Will there be an NBA season come October remains to be seen but considering what Bonner said, it’s not looking good at all.
