Adam Hanga to play for Hungarian National Team

AHAfter news came out yesterday that San Antonio Spurs draftee Cory Joseph is close to joining the Canadian National team, another Spurs draftee will also be playing basketball for his country over the summer.

This time it’s the Spurs’ 59th second round draft pick, Adam Hanga, who will be playing (BasketballInEngland.com) for the Hungarian National team.

Adam Hanga, the 59th overall pick of the San Antonio Spurs in the 2011 NBA Draft, along with veterans Peter Lorant and Marton Fodor was named to the squad, which will collide with Finland and Portugal for the last two spots in the main draw of the EuroBasket Men 2011 in Lithuania.

As part of their preparation for their upcoming campaign, Hungary will take on Asian champions Iran on July 18 Szombathely and on July 20 in Kormend. The team will also travel to Austria for a series of friendly matches.

After Hungary finishes their two-game stand this week, they will play in a pre-qualifying tournament in early August for a chance to play at the 2011 Eurobasket in Lithuania.

For Spurs fans this could mean: if Hanga and Hungary make it to the Eurobasket games, there’s a possibility that Hanga could play against his future teammate, Tony Parker and France.

The chance of that matchup happening is very slim because Parker hasn’t had his insurance covered and Hanga and Hungary have quite a road to go through to get there. Plus the chances of each country drawing each other is also very unknown. But we can continue to hope we see this matchup.
