AUSTIN – The Austin Spurs announced on Tuesday that they have acquired guard Daniel Nwaelele from the available player pool.

Nwaelele, who will wear #27, will be available to play for the Spurs at home on Friday against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

From the press release:

After fulfilling his commitment to the Air Force, Nwaelele joined the Santa Cruz Warriors from 2012-2016 where he averaged 10.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.8 assists over 92 games. The 6-foot-4 guard played four years of college ball at the Air Force Academy where he averaged 9.8 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game and at the end of his career ranked second in program history in three-point field goal percentage (45.1).

Nwaelele may be familiar to some San Antonio Spurs fans. The now 32-year-old guard went undrafted in the 2007 NBA Draft, but was immediately invited to San Antonio for training camp.

Nwaelele wouldn’t be able to attend camp due to his Air Force obligations, but would eventually play four games with the Spurs during the 2008 NBA Summer League season.

When he came back to the Santa Cruz Warriors and professional basketball, Nwaelele would get a second chance with the 2013 San Antonio Spurs training camp roster.

He averaged 3.7 points and 1.7 rebounds in 12.3 minutes before being waived along with Courtney Fells and Corey Maggette.
