Update: Toros acquire Dexter Pittman

UPDATE: The Toros released a press release announcing the trade. Kyle Hunt was waived to complete the transaction.

The Austin Toros will acquire Dexter Pittman’s minor league rights from the Springfield Armor, according to a Ridiculous Upside source.

The Brooklyn Nets acquired Pittman’s rights in November, but they relinquished them a week later.

Pittman, a second-round selection by the Miami Heat in 2010, played in 48 games in three seasons. He struggled to maintain his weight, and his mobility, a valuable trait in the modern NBA, never improved enough to warrant much attention in the NBA.

Pittman has averaged 13.6 points and 8.4 rebounds in 37 D-League games with Miami’s D-League affiliate, Sioux Fall Skyforce. Pittman averaged 14.2 points and 65 percent shooting in six games with China’s Guandong Foshan Dralions this year.

After a four-game stint with Miami and a seven-game stint with the Memphis Grizzlies last year, Pittman joined the San Antonio Spurs’ summer league roster. He participated in Chicago Bulls training camp last fall, but nothing materialized.

The Toros will reportedly release 2013 D-League draft pick Kyle Hunt to free up a roster spot for Pittman. Hunt would enter the D-League player pool, according to the source.
