Summary

The Texas Legends trail the Central Division leader, Rio Grande Valley Vipers, by 2.5 games heading into tonight’s matchup. The Legends are 7-3 in their last 10 games, outscoring their opposition by 4.8 points per 100 possessions, fifth in the D-League.

Where they excel

The Legends subsist heavily on 3-pointers and free throws, ranking in the top five in both (percentage wise). Texas is second in points per possession with their prudent scoring distribution.

Where they struggle

But the Legends struggle mightily on the other end, finishing in the bottom five in turnover rate, defensive rebounding and opponents effective field goal percentage (which adjusts for 3-pointers), respectively. The Legends allow 32.4 shots in the restricted area per game, the third-highest volume in the D-League, and their microscopic foul rate is a minor miracle given their propensity to yield high percentage shots.

Player to watch

Ebanks leads the team in points and rebounds — he’s one of four players averaging 20+ points and 10+ rebounds per game. Texas is 15.1 points per 100 possessions better when he plays, and their defense, which is usually very bad, is average when Ebanks plays. The Legends allow 47 points in the paint (per 48 minutes) with Ebanks, compared to 55 when he sits, a mark that would be worse than the last-ranked Vipers.
