The San Antonio Spurs’ losing streak hit four games as they fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves 115-90 at the Target Center to close out their road trip.
The loss marks the fourth straight and 11th overall for San Antonio, who closed their trip by losing all three games.
“They had great physicality and energy, shot well, were physical, executed well, beat us in a lot of different ways. That’s a bad night. We didn’t really have anybody who had a good game. If that happens, this will be the outcome,” Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich said.
Minnesota opened the game by leading 21-3 with 5:55 left in the first quarter. The Timberwolves fought off a run by San Antonio to take a 13-point lead into the second half.
The Timberwolves were led by Karl Anthony-Towns, who scored 25 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. D’Angelo Russell added 22 points despite shooting just 31 percent from the floor.
San Antonio struggled for much of the game, going down 18 points in the first quarter but rallying back two separate times to cut the deficit to single digits. Devin Vassell lead the Spurs with 18 points off the bench as he rebounded from a poor 2 point performance in the loss to Los Angeles on Tuesday.
Both Keldon Johnson and Lonnie Walker IV added 12 points for the San Antonio Spurs, who are off to their worst start since the 1997 season when the team started 2-13.
Dejounte Murray struggled with just seven points on 16 percent shooting.
“We didn’t have enough heart and passion tonight,” Spurs center Jakob Poeltl said.
Poeltl made his return to the lineup after missing seven games when he was placed into the league’s health and safety protocol.
“I did have symptoms. It affected me a little bit,” he said. “I was stuck at home for a while. I thought I had enough time to get back to it, but it’s obviously tough because you have to start all over again, start building up that conditioning.”
