The 2022 NBA offseason feels like it lasted forever, and yet the new season is already upon us. All 30 teams across the association enter training camps this week, and Monday’s media days are sure to provide even more storylines for the year, as if the star-shifting this summer didn’t bring enough. The San Antonio Spurs 2022 preseason schedule will move quickly, bringing fans to one of the most anticipated schedules of the last few years – the rebuild.
San Antonio Spurs 2022 Preseason Schedule
In August, the Spurs announced the schedule for their 50th season, full of giveaways and theme nights to attract fans. With the release came the list of their five preseason games featuring home contests against the Orlando Magic (Oct. 6), New Orleans Pelicans (Oct.9), and Oklahoma City Thunder (Oct. 13). The team will travel for preseason road games against the Houston Rockets and the Utah Jazz on October 2nd and October 11th respectively. Loaded with other young rosters, the preseason will provide a great gauge for where the team is.

- Tuesday, October 11, 2022 – San Antonio Spurs @ Utah Jazz | 8 p.m. CST
- Thursday, October 13, 2022 – San Antonio Spurs vs Oklahoma City Thunder | 7 p.m. CST
Yet to be announced is the team’s Silver and Black scrimmage, should the event return. It has been a free event for fans in the Alamo City to see the squad’s inter-squad primer. All preseason games will broadcast on the official San Antonio Spurs App.
San Antonio Spurs 2022 Preseason Roster
As the roster stands on Media Day, the Spurs have a full training camp roster of 20 players. By the time the regular season starts, the unit must be trimmed to 17 players, including the two-way contracts currently held by Dominick Barlow and Jordan Hall. In NBA contracts, San Antonio has 16, putting them at 18 contract players and over the limit by one. Alize Johnson and Tommy Kuhse are on the roster as training camp / Exhibit 10 contracts.

Be Sure to Wear A Seat Belt This Season
Already early Monday morning at Spurs Media Day, head coach Gregg Popovich, now in his 26th season in the role, wasn’t setting the bar high for this year. “I probably shouldn’t say this,” he said tongue in cheek per the San Antonio Express-News‘ Mike Finger. “Nobody here should go to Vegas and bet on this team to win the championship.”
For Spurs fans who may be new to a rebuild, seasons like the upcoming one can be fun and they can be torturous. Losing is hard. It is hard for the fans who want to not be the butt of every game preview. Players who taste defeat and face the media night after night despite their best efforts don’t have it easy either. The losses won’t be San Antonio’s fault, however, as the team just isn’t as talented as others, hoping to fix that in the 2023 NBA Draft. This means, however, that the team is on the lookout for players who can contribute in the long term, and the team and fans will have their eyes on other players around the league as their own continue to battle through the struggle.
Entering the Spurs’ 2022 preseason schedule, very few players on the roster can consider themselves “safe”. This was actually the subject of the most recent episode of our Spurscast, discussing which players could be traded this year and for what. With few veterans on roster, all of the players auditioning this preseason for a larger role on the team. That kind of opportunity isn’t available on most other squads in the NBA. That should make for an intriguing and entertaining three weeks before the season tips off for real on October 19th.
