The San Antonio Spurs may not have won the 2013 NBA title but their 2012 second round draft pick, Ryan Richards, finished his season with Vienna a champion.
Richards and BC Vienna defeated Oberwart, 68-55, 3-2 in the best of five series to capture the A Bundesliga title in the Austrian League. Richards averaged 12 points and 5 rebounds per game and in the title game, finished with 10 points and 3 rebounds in 26 minutes.
However, Richards played some of his best ball yet in the semifinals matchup with Kapfenberg where he averaged 22.6 points.
Hopefully this will help Richards' probasketball career in a positive way and, more importantly, a stable path.
Richards has had a tumultuous time in his basketball career. He parted ways with former team Asseco Prokom Gdynia, left Team Great Britain abruptly to play for Jamaica, left Swiss team Lugano Tigers for "personal reasons," and talk of him having a bad attitude has been mixed in as well.
Ryan will be getting another shot with the Spurs Summer League squad so hopefully the championship and some great play in Vegas will put him on the right path to the NBA.
Check out Richards' stellar play in the semifinals for Vienna and photos of him celebrating the championship with his teammates.
