Coach Mike Krzyzewski has ended his run as the coach of the U.S. Men’s Olympic
There have been a few names thrown around to replace Coach K, most notably the Spurs’ own Coach Gregg Popovich and Celtics coach Doc Rivers. Either would be well suited for the job, and would get my endorsement.
“Someone like Doc Rivers or maybe Coach (Gregg) Popovich they have both done a great job where they are," said Gay when asked who should head up the Americans.
Gay never played in an Olympics but did help the U.S. win a gold medal at the 2010 FIBA World Championship, so he has some international experience.
He probably won’t be on the next Olympic roster either, but I guess you never know. Either way, there seems to be a lot of support for either of those two coaches to take over.
I think Pop would be great. He’s shown the ability to control talent, take command of a locker room and he just knows how to run a team. The same can be said for Rivers too. Either coach would be a perfect fit for that job and surely lead the always-talented American team to another medal in 2016.
What do you guys think? How would Pop fit in as the next coach of the Olympic basketball team?
