In the history of the NBA, only four individuals ever achieved the elusive quadruple-double. Not even NBA greats such as Michael Jordan or Magic Johnson have accomplished this. Spurs fans can proudly say two of the four players ever to get the quadruple-double wore the Spurs uniform: Alvin Robertson and David Robinson.
Accomplishing that feat is nothing to scoff at. You have to be dominant on both ends of the court while involving your team. But this begs the question: which quadruple-double was more impressive? Alvin Robertson’s or David Robinson’s?
Let’s look at the “tale of the tape” and let Spurs fans decide.
Alvin Robertson
It was February 18, 1986 in the Hemisfair Arena in San Antonio. The Spurs were hosting the Phoenix Suns and though the Spurs nearly blew an 18 point lead, they pulled out the win, 120 to 114. Robertson got his 10th assist with 35 seconds left in the game to accomplish the quadruple-double.
Alvin’s final stat line — 20 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 steals.
Point to consider: Robertson is the only player on the list to accomplish it with steals.
David Robinson
It was February 17, 1994 in the Alamodome in San Antonio. The Spurs were hosting the Detroit Pistons and David was filling the stat sheet but still needed one block to seal it. With 2:15 left in the game, he got his 10th block. The Spurs won the game 115 to 96.
David’s final stat line — 34 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 blocks.
Points to consider: Robinson is the only player on the list to score the most points in getting the quadruple-double and is the last player in the NBA to record one.
