According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com, San Antonio Spurs Vice President of Basketball Operations Monty Williams has agreed to join the coaching staff of the Philadelphia 76ers, where he has accepted a position to be the lead assistant to Sixers Head Coach Brett Brown.

Last week it was reported Williams and the Sixers were in discussions about the lead assistant position.

In February of 2016, tragedy struck Williams and his family, as he lost his wife in a car crash. He stepped away from the NBA but returned in August of 2016 to be the Spurs’ VP of Basketball Operations. He’s been looking to get back into coaching and he recently interviewed with the Milwaukee Bucks about their head coaching position before Mike Budenholzer was hired for the job.

Williams was the head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans from 2010-2015 and he also has assistant coaching experience with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Portland Trail Blazers. He has also been an assistant coach for Team USA.

Once Williams is officially hired with Philadelphia, it’s unclear who will fill the VP of Basketball Operations position that will be vacant with the Spurs.
