Bryce Cotton could be making his way back to Austin as his second NBA stint comes to an end.
According to a report from Shams Charania of Yahoo sports, the Phoenix Suns will be waiving both guard Bryce Cotton and forward Cory Jefferson.
It’s a cost cutting move for Robert Sarver and the Phoenix Suns as all contracts become guaranteed starting on Sunday. Teams are also now eligible to sign players to 10-day contracts, so waiving Cotton and Jefferson gives the Suns two extra roster spots to play with in that regard as well.
The Suns are on the verge of chalking up this season as a loss, which is one of the reasons why not keeping Cotton is surprising. With Eric Bledsoe’s injury and Phoenix sitting 12th in the West at 13-25 (which ironically enough is only four games out of the 8th seed, but I digress) the Suns could easily keep Bryce and develop the 23-year-old point guard. A route that Phoenix could end up taking is releasing Cotton, only to bring him back on a 10-day contract which has been talked about.
Cotton only appeared in three games for the purple and orange, while averaging 1.3 points and 1.0 assists in 33 total minutes of action. Twenty-one of those minutes came against the Spurs on December 30th, where Cotton posted a line of two points, two assists and three steals while making one of his six field goal attempts.
