According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Phoenix Suns will be looking to waive veteran forward Vince 
Carter 72 hours into the official opening of free agency.
Based on an amendment in his contract obtained by ESPN.com, Carter must be waived by the Phoenix Suns within 72 hours of the official start of free agency or his $18 million salary for the 2011-12 season becomes fully guaranteed.
The Suns, sources said, have already decided to waive Carter within that window.
One interesting detail left at the end of the report is that the San Antonio Spurs will be one of the teams looking at signing Carter.
Chicago, Miami and San Antonio are expected to be among the teams interested in signing Carter, 34, once he clears waivers and becomes an unrestricted free agent.
Last season, Carter averaged 14 points and four rebounds while appearing in 73 games for the Suns. He shot 36% from three point range while averaging 28 minutes per game.
Just from reading that stat line, it’s good to know that Carter had somewhat of a productive season last year as he’s been known in the past to miss plenty of games and play with “little” motivation at times.
The idea of using the amnesty clause on forward Richard Jefferson seems like it’s getting closer day-by-day as Carter is now the fifth small forward mentioned by reports. The other names mentioned over the past week were Caron Butler, Josh Howard, Bostjan Nachbar, and Maurice Evans.
