Report: Spurs talking with Josh Howard’s reps

As it seems thoughts of adding Caron Butler to the San Antonio Spurs roster may be fleeting with the Bulls reportedly at the top of Butler’s wish-list, comes word the Spurs are interested in Josh Howard.

According to a tweet from ESPN’s Chris Broussard, the Spurs have had discussions with Howard’s reps.
Howard spent 18 games with the Wizards last season before being diagnosed with an ACL tear on February 2010 which sidelined him for the rest of the season.

His career averages are 15.1 points, 1.7 assists, 5.9 rebounds, 45% from the field in 31.2 minutes.

And though his knee injury will be of concern, adding Howard would definitely help. Though he can put the ball in the basket, he is one of the better perimeter defenders in the NBA. Something the Spurs have lacked since the days of Bruce Bowen.

Not to mention adding Josh would redeem R.C. Buford as he has always felt passing up on Howard was one of his biggest mistakes as a general manager. He even quipped how Gregg Popovich would “kill him” if Howard ever were to become a good player in the league.

There are some of his off-the-court issues, his knee, and the fact he hasn’t played in quite sometime but there is no doubting what he can bring to the table as all Spurs fans know during his time with the Dallas Mavericks.

What say you Spurs fans? Should the Spurs go after the 2007 NBA All-Star?
