Apparently, the San Antonio Spurs saw enough of second-round draft selection Chimezie Metu in Summer League to sign him to a multi-year contract.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Spurs and the USC product have agreed to a three-year rookie deal.

The Spurs were very limited with roster spots and it seemed a foregone conclusion that Metu’s best chance to make the team would be through a two-way contract, but the Spurs gained an extra roster spot with Manu¬†Ginobili announcing his retirement earlier this week.

Metu impressed in Summer League before injuring his wrist and gives the Spurs a mobile, athletic big man capable of protecting the rim. Offensively, he uses his lighter frame and athleticism to slash to the rim, but he can also hit a mid-range jumper, and he seems to be looking to expand his range.
