Apparently, the San Antonio Spurs saw enough of second-round draft selection Chimezie Metu in Summer League to sign him to a multi-year contract.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Spurs and the USC product have agreed to a three-year rookie deal.

The Spurs were very limited with roster spots and it seemed a foregone conclusion that Metu’s best chance to make the team would be through a two-way contract, but the Spurs gained an extra roster spot with Manu Ginobili announcing his retirement earlier this week.

Metu impressed in Summer League before injuring his wrist and gives the Spurs a mobile, athletic big man capable of protecting the rim. Offensively, he uses his lighter frame and athleticism to slash to the rim, but he can also hit a mid-range jumper, and he seems to be looking to expand his range.
