According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com, the San Antonio Spurs and forward DeMarre Carroll have agreed to a contract buyout on his 3-year deal.
Once he’s waived and clears waivers, Carroll intends to sign with the Houston Rockets per Shams Charania of the Athletic.
Per ESPN’s Bobby Marks, Carroll has $2.3 million of his $7 million remaining on his contract for this season. Since Carroll was signed to a three year deal in the summer, he’ll have a $6.65 million cap hit during the 2020-21 season and a $1.35 million cap hit in the 2021-22 season.
With Carroll gone, the Spurs’ roster will have 14 guaranteed contracts and two two-way contracts, meaning, the Spurs can now add another player if they choose to do so during the final 28 games of the season.
Prior to the NBA trade deadline, it was reported that Carroll’s agent and the Spurs were trying to find a new destination for him via trade, but, a deal never came about.
