Report: Spurs’ Brown to meet with Celtics next week

As the Boston Celtics remain coach-less one day into the start of free agency, it’s no secret San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Brett Brown might be atop their list of likely candidates for their vacant head coaching position.

After a report surfaced Friday stating Brown was ‘extremely’ interested in coaching the Celtics, a new report came out Monday from Lee Goldberg of WCSH6-TV/WLBZ2-TV saying Brown is expected to meet with the Celtics possibly sometime next week.

The Brown-Celtics rumors began surfacing last Thursday when a Sports Illustrated writer believed Brown was the perfect man for the job – due to his familiarity with the Boston area and it’s culture.

As noted in the past articles, the Celtics are currently in a rebuilding state as they shipped Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to the Brooklyn Nets recently. Rajon Rondo is still there but with trades and free agent signings happening in the coming months, there’s no telling if the Celtics will add pieces around Rondo or if they’ll ship him out as well.

Brown is one of three assistants under Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich. Along with Brown, Ime Udoka and the newly hired Jim Boylen are also by Popovich’s side.
