According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Brett Brown has been interviewed by the Denver Nuggets for their vacant head coaching position.

San Antonio Spurs assistant Brett Brown has emerged as a serious candidate for the Denver Nuggets' head-coaching job, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Brown traveled to Denver and met with Nuggets CEO Josh Kroenke and general manager Tim Connelly on Sunday night.

As Mike Budenholzer ventures off to coach the Atlanta Hawks, Brown and Ime Udoka are the current assistant coaches under Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, who just took his team to the Western Conference Finals and NBA Finals in back-to-back seasons.

On Saturday, a report was released stating former Spur Fabricio Oberto could possibly join the coaching circle under Popovich if he decided to retire from basketball professionally overseas.

As for Brown, he’s shown to be a successful coach with both NBA players and top international stars under his command. He’s been the Australian National team head coach for several seasons and last year in the London Olympics his team went 3-2 in tournament play and was eventually knocked out of the tournament in the first round by the eventual Gold Medal team, the United States.

Brown’s influence on the Spurs has led them to put towel-waving Patty Mills in their lineup, and in this past season, during the year, the Spurs signed center Aron Baynes who still has potential to grow and learn in the coming summer.

According to Wojnarowski’s report, Brown was the fifth coaching candidate to interview with the Nuggets, who decided not to bring George Karl back after he won coach of the year this past season.

The Nuggets finished third in the Western Conference in the regular season and are bringing back a majority of their core roster, however Andre Iguodala could be one of the main parts who could potentially leave as he’s an unrestricted free agent.
