Report: Oden to make decision Friday (Update)

The San Antonio Spurs have one roster spot left heading into next season and it possibly could be filled by center Greg Oden. There has been numerous reports linking the Spurs (among other teams) as possibly Oden's next stop in his NBA career

UPDATE: Oden could make his decision as soon as Friday:

Reports state the Pelicans and Heat are the frontrunners, however, the Spurs are still in the mix for the big man's services and it appears Oden will make his decision this weekend.

Center Greg Oden probably won’t decide among the Heat and five other teams until this weekend, agent Mike Conley Sr. said Tuesday, adding that formal offers haven’t been made yet. He said the Heat has seen “all it needs to see” from a medical standpoint and that Oden won’t necessarily take the highest offer. But asked if a Heat offer at the $1 million minimum would be good enough, Conley said he was not sure.

If he does pick San Antonio, he wold join a team with Tim Duncan and Tiago Splitter which would mean he would be deep on the big man rotation. Add the fact he has been away from the game for so long (2009-10 NBA season was his last) and his history of knee injuries, he might be coming back slowly to ensure no future health issues.

Which team he lands with, he will have to know he is going to be relegated to the bench, take a significantly reduce deal (and role) and be seen as a role player.

Although this is something I suspect Oden will happily accept knowing he is back in the NBA.

So what do you think Spurs fans about Oden possibly joining the team?
