Report: Oberto set to join Atenas de Cordoba

If the San Antonio Spurs were looking at former center Fabricio Oberto to shore up their frontcourt they will have to look elsewhere.

According to Ole.com, Oberto is set to join Argentinian team Atenas de Cordoba in order to get some time on the court to be ready for the 2012 London Olympics with the Argentinian National team.

“I want to get as much time as possible for London. It is my goal. And the way to do it, is training and playing on a team.”

This is welcomed news for Argentina as the “Golden Era” of players will try once more to bring Olympic gold back to Argentina. The team will also include Spurs’ Manu Ginobili, Rockets’ Luis Scola, Bucks’ Carlos Delfino, Andres Nocioni among other notable players.

San Antonio was reportedly looking at bringing back Oberto prior to the lockout but nothing ever materialized.

Oberto retired from the NBA in 2010 due to a heart condition but has since battled back and played with Argentina at this past summer’s FIBA Americas tournament.
