Report: Josh Howard to visit with Spurs

The last time we heard about Josh Howard and the San Antonio Spurs was on July 1, 2012. At that time, none of the Spurs' free agents had been re-signed yet, and it was looking like Danny Green might have actually been looking at other options at that point, so the move would have made sense.

Now, once again according to Yahoo! Sports' Marc Spears, Howard will be visiting with the Spurs once again on Monday.

I'm still not sure what the Spurs see in Howard aside from his prime years when he was a pest with the Dallas Mavericks, or the fact that he's a Wake Forest Demon Deacon like Tim Duncan.

The interest in Howard seems more like an insurance or safety precaution for either Kawhi Leonard or Stephen Jackson. As it's been engrained in numerous articles before here on Project Spurs, the Spurs are already overloaded at the guard position, which is a position Howard could play.

But Howard would probably be brought in to be a substitute for Leonard or Jackson and he'd give the Spurs more versatility on defense. However, in last season's NBA playoffs when the Spurs swept the Utah Jazz, Howard was a non-factor even though he started most of the those four games.

Howard was held to just 3.8 points and shot just 29% against the Spurs a few months ago in the playoffs. Ever since enduring numerous injuries, he's never seemed to physically play like the "Maverick" version of himself NBA fans were so accustomed to seeing.

With the Spurs also reportedly being interested in Tracy McGrady, Jason Kapono, and now Howard, this just seems like a move to add another wing with veteran leadership who can also contribute should someone go down with an injury.

Of course as this Howard rumor comes out, most Spurs fans are still wondering, where are the big men rumors?
