According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Charlotte Hornets are finalizing a deal to hire Spurs assistant James Borrego as their new head coach.

Details on Borrego’s hiring are not known at this time.

Borrego is just one of the many Spurs assistants up for head coaching gigs across the association.

Considered the front runner for Charlotte’s head coaching job after the organization parted ways with head coach Steve Clifford, Borrego received a second interview with the Hornets over the weekend along with Boston Celtics assistant Jay Larrañaga.

Borrego was also under consideration for the Milwaukee Bucks and Atlanta Hawks head coaching positions.

With the hiring, Borrego will now be paired with newly hired general manager Mitch Kupchak as the Hornets begin a small rebuilding process after finishing last season 36-46.

Meanwhile, current Spurs assistants Becky Hammon and Ettore Messina are still candidates for the Milwaukee Bucks job, while Ime Udoka draws interest from the Orlando Magic and Atlanta Hawks.

We’ll have more on this story as it develops.
