The San Antonio Spurs were back at work after a thrilling win over the Atlanta Hawks last night at the AT&T Center.
Project Spurs was at today's training camp and here are some quotes and notes from today's media session.
Quotes:
Tony Parker on the play he drew up for Nando De Colo to hit the game-winning shot last night:
"Nando was rolling and he made the shot. I drew up an iso."
Parker on the competition for the backup point guard spot:
"It's tough. It's a great problem to have. We have great talented point guards, Nando (De Colo), Cory Joseph, Patty Mills. So it's a great problem to have. I don't know, Pop (coach Gregg Popovich) is the real coach. So he'll be the one to make the decision."
Parker on Gary Neal as the backup pont guard:
"Gary does a great job at the point guard. He did a great job last year."
Parker on the state of the Spurs:
"We'll keep improving. Working on the stuff we've been doing the whole training camp. Tomorrow we'll play a little bit more, the starters and stuff like that. It's going to be another game and I'm sure Pop wants to see everybody."
Parker on shortening the roster:
"It's tough. It's always good when you have great players. It's going to be a tough decision for Pop but unfortunately it's going to happen. I don't know what he's (Pop) is going to do but whatever he does, you can't go wrong. Everybody is doing a great job at camp."
Parker on his health:
"I feel great. I know the season is long. Back-to-backs and stuff like that. I trust Pop's judgment. Whenever he says it's time to rest, it's time to rest."
Josh Powell on staring down the Hawks' bench last night after hitting a shot:
"I shouldn't have done that."
Powell on what it takes from him to make the final roster:
"Hopefully it's all-around (game) but I know most importantly it's defense. That's what they stress here. I'm just trying to fit in and do the best I can on both ends of the court. Show I am ready to get to the right spots. Play with energy. Play hard."
Powell on the Spurs training camp versus other camps he has been in:
"A lot of teaching."
Notes:
The Spurs were doing lots of free throw drills.
Manu Ginobili was participating at today's camp despite sitting out last night's game.
Nando De Colo was working on his three-point shooting after practice.
Powell was hard at work on his inside and outside game with trainers.
Assistant coach Chip Engelland was talking to Kawhi Leonard and Cory Joseph for quite sometime in a corner of the gym. Seemed as if they were going over footage or stats.
