Report: Deshaun Thomas to play in Spain

According to Sportando.com, San Antonio Spurs 2013 NBA Draft pick Deshaun Thomas will be heading to Spain next season to play with Estudiantes.

Thomas, drafted in the second round, showed his knack for scoring and his versatility when he suited up for the Spurs Summer League squad. However, with the team having just one roster spot left, it appears San Antonio may be looking at a different type of player to fill that remaining spot over Thomas.

As for Thomas heading overseas, this won't be the first time the Spurs do this with a draft pick. Currently, Marcos Denmon is in Turkey playing for Tofas after playing with French club Chalon after he was drafted by the Spurs.

Preferably, I would have liked to have seen Thomas spend an entire season with the Spurs D-League affiliate, Austin Toros, learning the Spurs' system. However, playing at a pro-level (over D-League competition) in Spain may be best for Deshaun long term should he make his way to the NBA.

Breaking down his performance in Las Vegas for Project Spurs was Jason Price. Here is his summary

Thomas has a multitude of ways to score the basketball. People might not realize that this was a relatively quiet game for Thomas compared to his previous two games. His looks were far and few between, but that didn’t slow Thomas who finished with 17 points on the night.

The Spurs have a pure scorer on their hands and there’s always a job in the NBA for anyone with that kind of skill set. Let’s just hope for Thomas and Spurs fans that opportunity is here in San Antonio.

What do you think Spurs fans? Do you like this move for Thomas?
