Report: Free agent guard Brandon Paul signs with San Antonio Spurs

According to international basketball reporter David Pick, the San Antonio Spurs have signed guard Brandon Paul.

Paul’s deal is a guaranteed NBA contract, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Signing the 26-year-old guard introduces some intriguing scenarios for both San Antonio and Austin.

Paul has appeared in seven games during Summer League, first as a member of the Dallas Mavericks during Orlando’s tournament, and now more recently with the Cleveland Cavaliers in Las Vegas.

In those seven games, Paul averaged 15.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists while shooting 47 percent on field goals and 39 percent on 3-pointers.

In addition to his Summer League appearances, Paul has also spent time with the Canton Charge of the G-League and Anadolu Efes S.K. of the Turkish Basketball Super League.

With San Antonio renouncing the rights to Jonathon Simmons, a slot has opened up in the rotation for either Bryn Forbes, Derrick White or Brandon Paul. Regardless if Manu Ginobili and/or Simmons returns, there’s a good chance Paul spends some time in Austin to get acclimated to the system.
