Report: Belinelli will play Eurobasket for Italy

On Saturday a report was released discussing how new San Antonio Spurs guard Marco Belinelli was awaiting 'permission' from the Spurs in order to represent his home country of Italy at the 2013 Eurobasket in Slovenia this fall.

Now according to Sportando, the Spurs have given Belinelli 'permission' to play this fall and represent his home country.

Marco Belinelli will play Eurobasket in Slovenia with the Italian National Team, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Italian combo guard got the permission from his new team, the San Antonio Spurs, and will join the Italian NT.

Remember, an NBA team cannot withhold a player from representing their country in international play in the offseason, but Belinelli wanted to get 'permission' from his new team and see what they thought rather than just going out and playing.

As stated in the report Saturday, playing in international play always comes with risks. For one fatigue could be an issue, as the Eurobasket will take place from September 4-22, just days before the Spurs' training camp will begin.

The other risk which was brought to light on Sunday is injury. Sunday the Spurs' first round draft pick Livio Jean-Charles injured his right knee in a FIBA U-20 game vs. the Czech Republic representing France and now he will have to have right knee surgery to repair his knee.

Belinelli will see his French Spurs teammates Tony Parker, Boris Diaw, and Nando De Colo at Eurobasket as they'll be representing their home country of France.
