According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Philadelphia 76ers have been granted permission from the San Antonio Spurs to speak with assistant coach Brett Brown about their vacant head coaching position.

Wojnarowksi also says there’s no set date as to when Brown and 76ers general manager Sam Hinkie will meet.

Early on Monday morning, Brown also reportedly met with Denver Nuggets management on Sunday as he was being considered a serious candidate for their head coaching position. However, late Monday afternoon word came out that Brian Shaw would officially be named the Nuggets’ head coach.

As for Brown, he and Ime Udoka are currently Gregg Popovich’s two assistants with the Spurs. The 76ers finished 34-48 in the regular season under Doug Collins. They did not make the playoffs in the Eastern Conference and have a roster that would need some reconstruction.

The 76ers have Jrue Holliday who was named an All-Star this past season, but don’t have a lot of star potential on the roster. Andrew Bynum, who missed the entire season due to injury, is now an unrestricted free agent as well.
