The San Antonio Spurs split a back to back set with the Toronto Raptors and Boston Celtics to begin their first full of week of games in 2022 on Monday and Tuesday night.

The results saw San Antonio move to 15-22 and just percentage points behind the Sacramento Kings for the final play-in spot in the Western Conference.

In case you missed it, here’s a mini recap of both games:

Monday: Raptors 129, Spurs 104

The San Antonio Spurs kicked off the week with a blowout loss to the Toronto Raptors north of the border at Scotiabank Arena.

Toronto ran away with the game in the second quarter as they outscored the Spurs 38-24. Fred VanVleet scored 33 points to lead the Raptors while Pascal Siakam had 18 points and 12 rebounds to help Toronto extend their winning streak to three games.

San Antonio played without Dejounte Murray, who missed the game after being placed on the league’s health and safety COVID-19 protocol. Former Raptor Jakob Poeltl scored 19 points against his old team and Devin Vassell and rookie Josh Primo each had 15 for the Spurs, who lost their fourth straight.

”I thought Jakob was great tonight,” Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said. ”I was really glad to see Jakob be as assertive as he was on offense. With two G-League guys, Josh and Joe, I thought they were fantastic. Devin was fairly solid but we didn’t get much from anybody else.”

Keldon Johnson struggled scoring just six points on 23 percent shooting and Popovich did not mince his words after the game.

“Keldon isn’t playing well,” he said.

Tuesday: Spurs 99, Celtics 97

San Antonio picked up their first win of 2022 with a nail-biting 99-97 victory over the Celtics at TD Garden.

Murray returned to the lineup and proved why he’s an important player for the Spurs, leading the silver and black with 22 points and 12 assists. Derrick White and Vassell each added 17 points as the Spurs snapped their four-game losing streak.

Johnson rebounded from his poor outing on Monday night to score 13 points.

“He’s special,” Derrick said of Murray. “The dude loves to play, competes, talented, hits big shots, defends. He does it all for us. I’m super happy he’s back.”
