CEDAR PARK – After losing three out of their last four games, the Austin Spurs used a six-hour bus ride home to refocus and prepare for the final matchup of the season against the Oklahoma City Blue.
The Spurs had five players score in double figures and shot an impressive 54-percent from the field as the silver and black took the second game of a back-to-back versus the Blue, 110-104 on Sunday evening.
Austin was led by Cady Lalanne’s 25 points in 29 minutes of the bench, with the rookie center out of UMass also adding in seven rebounds and three assists for the Spurs. Keifer Sykes scored 18 points, while Walter Tavares had a double-double in the first half, finishing with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Deshaun Thomas and Lamar Patterson had 17 and 16 points, respectively.
For Oklahoma City, Marquis Teague put on another stellar performance leading all scores with 28 points, while dishing out six assists. Talib Zanna had 23 points and eight rebounds, with Dwight Buycks also scoring 23 points off the bench for the Blue. Dakari Johnson would also score in double figures for the Oklahoma City Blue with 10 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.
The Spurs started off strong with an early nine point lead to end the first quarter. The bigs would dominate the second quarter for Austin as Walter Tavares and Cady Lalanne combined for 26 points in the first half to help the Spurs push their halftime lead to 11. Oklahoma City attempted to repeat Saturday night’s second half dominance to little avail as the Spurs would seal the deal down the stretch with hot shooting while holding the Blue to 30-percent from beyond the arch.
Up next for the Austin Spurs (22-14) is another extended break before taking on the Idaho Stampede (14-25) next Sunday, March 6th from the Cedar Park Center. The Oklahoma City Blue (13-24) will head back home to face the Santa Cruz Warriors (14-23) on Friday.
