FRISCO – The Austin Spurs needed an extra three minutes of overtime to defeat the Texas Legends 110-103 on Friday night from The Dr. Pepper Center.
Bryce Cotton led the Spurs with 23 points, two rebounds and six assists. Jarell Eddie posted his best line of the season with 22 points, seven rebounds and two assists, while Keifer Sykes added 15 points off the bench.
For the Legends, all five starters would score in double-figures, led by Tu Holloway’s game-high 27 points. Holloway would also add in five assists and three rebounds in 43 minutes of action. Michael Eric added 18 points and seven rebounds, while Toure’ Murry and Jamil Wilson chipped in 17 points each.
Both teams would share the lead in the first half, with the Legends taking a 55-52 lead over the Spurs into the locker room at halftime.
Texas began the third quarter on an 11-3 run led by Tu Holloway, who scored 10 of his 27 points in the quarter. But Jarell Eddie would answer back with a 9-2 run of his own, making three straight shots from beyond the arch that would keep the Austin Spurs in striking distance entering the final period.
The Spurs bench would come through to complete the comeback in the fourth quarter. Youssou Ndoye came alive scoring 10 of his 11 points in the fourth, including the go-ahead hook shot that would give Austin a 101-99 lead in the final minute. But it would be Holloway who answered the call again for the Legends as his floater in the lane would send the game into overtime.
In the extra frame, Bryce Cotton would take matters into his own hands, scoring eight of the Spurs nine points to give them a 110-103 lead that would eventually hold as the final score.
With the win the Austin Spurs move to 4-0 to stay atop the D-League standings. The Spurs will now have a week off to enjoy their Thanksgiving break before traveling to Santa Cruz for a road back-to-back against the defending champion Warriors next Friday and Saturday.
