AUSTIN – A close game throughout would turn ugly in the fourth quarter as the Austin Spurs fell to the South Bay Lakers, 113-96 on Saturday night.

Jaron Blossomgame led the Spurs with 18 points and 10 rebounds, for his third double-double on the season. Olivier Hanlan had 17 points and four assists, but struggled shooting 5-for-16 from the field. Nick Johnson also had a poor shooting night, scoring 15 points on 4-for-13 shooting.

Five players scored in double figures for the Lakers led by Ivica Zubac’s 19 points and 11 rebounds. Alex Caruso destroyed the Spurs backcourt with 18 points, six rebounds, five assists and seven steals. Meanwhile, Josh Hart and Stephaun Branch had 17 points each.

Six turnovers doomed Austin in the early going, but Hanlan’s 12 points in the first quarter kept the silver and black within striking distance.

Blossomgame and Johnson helped pace a hot shooting second quarter for the Spurs, but they still trailed 59-51 at halftime.

The Lakers pushed their lead to as much as 16 points in the second half, but an 18-4 run by the Spurs to end the third quarter kept Austin down 81-78 heading into the final frame.

Unfortunately for the Spurs, their shooting touch disappeared in the fourth quarter going 5-for-21 to end the game resulting in the 17-point loss.
