Project Spurs writer Collin Reid discusses Thaddeus Young expressing his frustration over playing time on the San Antonio Spurs and how it’s possible for neither side to be wrong in a situation like this.

The Spurs traded for Thad Young in the summer in a move that sent DeMar DeRozan to Chicago and Al-Farouq Aminu and a draft pick back to San Antonio.

The Spurs waived Aminu prior to the season starting, but Young is still on the roster and he has seen his role and minutes fluctuate with no consistent role on this young San Antonio Spurs team.

Young can probably contribute to a championship contender so they’d like to trade him to get even more back on the DeRozan trade, and they don’t want to risk losing him to injury to lessen his trade value.

Young, who is in his 15th NBA season, is looking to play regularly, and he has answered reporters recently asking if he is healthy and he has said that he wants to be playing right now.

Young’s contract could be a major speed bump in moving him as he is earning a reported $13.5 million and it would be difficult to find a 1-to-1 trade partner with equal trade value. Most trades would require multiple players, who the Spurs do not have roster space for.
