Pistons’ Monroe on Spurs losing to Grizzlies

0

Yesterday, I was at the 2011 NBA Draft Lottery and was able to catch up with Detroit Pistons’ Greg Monroe.

During a Q&A, I asked him his thoughts on the San Antonio Spurs losing to the eighth seeded Memphis Grizzlies in the first round of the playoffs and Monroe said he was not shocked about the series outcome:

Jeff: Were you shocked when the Memphis Grizzlies upset the West’s number one team, the San Antonio Spurs?

Greg: Yeah. I don’t think really anyone, except for the Grizzlies, who were shocked. The Grizzlies came out and they beat them. They were the better team in that series. In the playoffs, that’s what it’s about. Nothing else matters, what you did in the regular season doesn’t matter. It’s about getting those four wins and moving on to the next series and that’s what the Grizzlies did.

Unfortunately, Memphis was the better team and continued to prove it as they took the Oklahoma City Thunder to a seven game series. Hopefully in the offseason the Spurs will regroup, add the right players, and look to capture a fifth title – if there is going to be a next season.
