Patty Mills hoping for more playing time next season

Patty Mills became too accustomed to the end of the bench last season and is looking to earn a spot in the San Antonio Spurs’ rotation this season.

Fans loved him for his enthusiastic towel waving routines, but Mills would like to see significant game time this season. When recently asked about this upcoming season and future plans, Mills had this to say.

Via Sydney Morning Herald:

''The position hasn't been set who's going to take it. We all have goals and I have a goal as well. All I can do is put myself in the best possible position to earn the right when it comes around to game time. Hopefully I've done all the work to put myself in the best position. The plan is to get some good work while I'm here in Australia and make sure I'm in the best shape possible when training camp starts at the end of September.''

''It's crucial for me just to get out and play a part and contribute for them. I fully believe I can play and contribute to the Spurs, it's somewhere I feel like I can play a lot, but it's out of my hands, it's all up to coach Pop (Gregg Popovich).”

''If it doesn't go to plan and I'm a free agent by the end of the season, I'll look elsewhere.''

Mills brings an energy to the court that is contagious to the team. His issues holding him back have been defensively since the Australian is a known scorer.

Still, Mills will compete with Cory Joseph and Nando De Colo for the backup point guard job. Mills is a great asset if the Spurs are willing to play him or even if they are looking to shop him to other teams.

Hopefully he comes in early and tries to solidify the position that the Spurs will desperately need especially if Parker goes down at some point. At this point you would have to think that Mills is ahead of De Colo and maybe slightly behind Joseph based on how last season ended.

Things can change quickly though because this is a new season and a fresh start for guys like Patty Mills.
