Parker’s 37 too much for 76ers, Spurs extend win streak to six

Thursday is a big day for several NBA players, as the All-Star game reserves will be announced and one member of the San Antonio SpursTP would be glad to be among the players selected if his name is announced.

“I’ll be very happy if I’m selected,” said San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker who once again led the Spurs to victory on Wednesday as the Spurs defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 100 to 90 in Philly.

Parker is making a case for himself to make the Western conference All-Star squad as he scored a game high 37-points against the 76ers, and has scored a combined 100 points in the Spurs’ last three games.

Parker received some help as Tim Duncan (16 points, 11 rebounds), Gary Neal (18 points, 4-of-4 from three), and Tiago Splitter (15 points) pitched in the team effort to score 100 points on the number one ranked defense in the NBA.

Points were scarce in the first quarter, as both the 76ers and Spurs struggled to connect on any shots. Then, Neal came into the game and hit all three of his first-quarter three pointers as he had 12 points in the quarter; the Spurs led 26-24 after one. Parker scored six points in the first quarter, that would be the least amount of points he would score in each individual quarter that would follow.

The Spurs came out with a 10-4 run to start the second quarter as the team stretched its lead to eight points. The 76ers came charging back with their own 10-0 run as the Spurs went cold (0/10) from outside the paint in the second quarter. Parker had 10 points in the second and 16 at half, as the Spurs held a narrow 48-45 lead.

In the third quarter, Parker once again dominated with 11 points and the Spurs used a 9-2 run to go ahead by double digits. When the third ended, the team went into the final period with a 75-67 advantage.

Parker and Philly guard Lou Williams (22 points) dueled in the fourth quarter as Williams hit big shots to keep the 76ers within 10 points, but Parker’s 10-point fourth quarter was still too much for the 76ers. The 76ers used a 7-0 run to get within five points of the Spurs, but Parker, Neal, and Splitter were just too much to handle in the fourth quarter as the Spurs walked off the floor with a 100-90 victory.

With the win, the Spurs are now 18-9 on the season, 5-8 on the road, and 2-0 to begin the Rodeo Road trip. With Manu Ginobili’s possible return against the 8-19 New Jersey Nets on Saturday, the Spurs’ six game win streak might be at seven before the weekend ends.
