Parker would love to play in China after retirement

The San Antonio Spurs have 11 contracts expiring prior to the 2015-16 season, just two years from now, including team-friendly deals (relative to their experience and production) to Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili. It certainly seems that the 2015-16 season will be a finite end to the vaunted Big Three era, though Spurs general manager R.C. Buford still maintains that San Antonio will do their due diligence to tack on a few additional years of championship contention.

Parker, 31, will still be in line for another multi-year contract when his extension expires. Duncan and Ginobili, in all likelihood, will bow out in two years, barring an encounter with the NBA's fountain of youth.

Parker's maturation into a complete point guard has been the primary impetus behind Spurs coach Gregg Popovich's tactical switch from plodding defensive machine to a dynamite offensive powerhouse. Even though he'll be nearing an age where most speedy point guards depreciate in value, especially one without reliable 3-point range, Parker should net a healthy sum with a NBA team, even if San Antonio decides to move in the opposite direction.

But, once Parker does call it quits, he may entertain a short basketball hiatus in China.

"When I'm done with my career [with the NBA], I would love to come play one or two years here," Parker said.

Parker's ties to Chinese shoe company Peak make this an appealing endeavor, at least monetarily. He'll attract a sizable following in China, collect large pay checks and expand Peak's sphere of influence. It's a win, win, win.

Oh, and come on, Chinese food is amazing. That alone will be worth the trip.
