Parker too much for Raptors as Spurs’ win streak rises to nine

For a player who has been playing basketball almost non-stop for an entire year, San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker doesn’t show any signs of TPslowing down as he led the Spurs to their 9th win in a row over the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday 113-106.

In the month of February, Parker has been dominating opposing teams. What was he able to do against the Raptors? How does 14 points in the fourth quarter and 34 points, 14 assists overall sound?

The first quarter was probably the Spurs’ best defensive quarter as the team held the Raptors to just 17 points and started the quarter with an 8-0 run, fueled by Richard Jefferson who had seven points in the first, 10 points total.

Though both teams played on Tuesday, they didn’t look tired as both the Spurs and Raptors scored over 27 points in the second quarter. Danny Green used outside shooting to score eight points in the quarter, as he led the Spurs with 13 points at halftime.

During the third quarter, the Raptors used a 6-0 run to tie the game at 66, the Spurs’ once 14-point lead was all but gone. Then, a lineup of Parker, Manu Ginobili (11 points), Gary Neal (8 points), Matt Bonner (10 points), and Tiago Splitter (13 points) was inserted and the group went on a 9-0 run to stretch the Spurs’ lead back to nine points. When the quarter ended, the Spurs held a slim five-point lead, 83-78 as the Raptors scored 33 points in the quarter and shot 63% from the field.

The fourth quarter was once again about Parker putting the Spurs on his back and carrying them to victory with big shots, drives to the basket, and critical free throws. In the game, Parker was perfect from the free throw line (12-12). The Spurs used a 30-point fourth quarter to defeat the Raptors 113-106, despite Demar DeRozan’s 27 points.

With the victory, the Spurs are now 21-9 on the season, remain undefeated on the Rodeo Road Trip (5-0), and have earned enough victories to stay .500 (8-8) on the road. The team will have two days off before traveling to Los Angeles to face the hot start Clippers on Saturday.
