Parker practices, believes he’ll return sooner than expected

San Antonio Spurs fans have been patiently waiting for the return of Tony Parker.

When he injured his ankle against the Sacramento Kings early this month, the timetable was set at him returning in one month. With the team struggling on both ends on the floor and working harder than they should, fans have been hoping the days go by faster so Parker can return to the team.

Those fans may be getting their with. On Monday, Parker gave us an update on his condition during his French radio show and the news on his injury seems to be getting better with every passing day.

It's going much better, said the leader of the Spurs. I got in some good practice this morning. Tomorrow, I'll see how I react, and I'll talk with Pop (Gregg Popovich) to know when I will return. I think I will return before the scheduled date. (via French site RMC Sport)

This is huge news as the Spurs will be having a difficult week next week when they play the Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, and Miami Heat. The ideal situation isn't to play Parker against those opponents right away coming off an injury, but the Spurs don't want to drop more games to the two teams in the hunt with them for top seed overall.

On March 24, the Spurs visit the Houston Rockets which may also be a perfect situation for return as Houston doesn't seem to play much defense.

Either way, it looks like Parker is planning on returning before the March 31st date as was previous reported. This early return may be beneficial for the Spurs to get him back in playing shape for the drive for the fifth championship in franchise history.

Parker's return is important for the team, but he's leaving it to the man pulling the strings on the sidelines for the final decision.
