Tony Parker and the San Antonio Spurs are closing in on playoff season and it couldn't come sooner for the Frenchman. During his French radio show, (via French site RMC Sport), Parker discussed which team he'll like to meet in the playoffs, Kobe Bryant's injury, and more.
When asked if Parker still gets the same excitement every year when the playoffs approach, his response was predictable.
For the Spurs, each season is important because it's not known how long Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili will still be playing. Tim has been incredible this year and it shows in his eyes that he still wants to win a title.
Parker was also asked who he'd prefer to see in the postseason between the Houston Rockets or the Golden State Warriors.
Both are great teams. There's no easy first round in the West.
Both teams have given the Spurs fits this season, especially on the defensive end. It won't be an easy task for San Antonio to stop either team with the injuries they've suffered heading into the playoffs. Whatever advantage San Antonio had over these two teams may have been lost.
Tony also comments on Bryant's season ending injury. Parker not only says he "loves" Bryant, but also expects him to return from this injury.
This is one of the worst injuries for a professional basketball player (a rupture of the Achilles tendon, Editor's note). At the age of 34, it'll be hard to get back. But if there is a player who can do that, it's Kobe. I hope that he will return next season and it will be very interesting to see it. Even if you're not a fan of Kobe and the Lakers, you are obliged to respect what he has done for basketball and the NBA
Parker's respect for Kobe is nothing new as he's praised him and Michael Jordan as big inspirations in his career. Parker might see the Lakers this postseason without Bryant, so it might be a bitter sweet moment for Parker playing against one of the Spurs' long time rivals.
