CEDAR PARK – The Austin Spurs would have some help of a few familiar faces as they started their season, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Oklahoma City Blue defeated the Spurs 118-95.

Leading the way for Austin would be forward Davis Bertans, on assignment from San Antonio, who scored 22 points to go along with six rebounds. Guard Dejounte Murray, who was also assigned earlier in the day from San Antonio, had 18 points, six rebounds and seven assists. Patricio Garino chipped in 18 points as well.

For the Blue, six players would score in double figures, led by Chris Wright’s 22 points in 21 minutes. Wright also had five steals, four rebounds and three assists. Dakari Johnson notched a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while former NBA guard Reggie Williams finished with 18 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Both teams got off to a hot start early with Bertans making his first three 3-pointers, finishing the quarter with 11 points. But Austin’s defense would struggle to contain the Blue, as Oklahoma City finished the frame shooting 50 percent from the field and 63 percent from beyond the arc to take an early 31-28 lead.

A 12-2 run would push the Blue lead to 15 points before Bertans connected on his fourth straight 3-pointer to cut the lead to 12. But another 8-0 run by Oklahoma City would put the Spurs in a deeper hole heading into halftime down 68-52.

Garino would catch fire to start the third quarter for Austin, scoring the Spurs first 10 points of the period, but Austin finished the quarter still down double-digits, 90-74.

It would be Murray showing off for the Spurs in the fourth quarter, but the Spurs would fail to mount any kind of comeback, losing by the final score of 118-95.

It will be a quick turnaround for the Austin Spurs (0-1) as they take on the Reno Bighorns (0-1) on Tuesday morning. Tipoff is at 11 a.m. CST from the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
