Oberto opts out

ObertoIt looks like Fabricio Oberto has opted out of the final year of his contract to become a restricted free agent. His agent, Herb Rudoy, says Oberto wants to stay in San Antonio.
It’s not too much of a surprise, especially after his playoff performance. Oberto, who made $2.5 million a year last season, started over Francisco Elson during the Western Conference Finals averaging 10.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
In comparison, Elson makes $3 milllion a year, Melvin Ely made $3.3 million and Jackie Butler, one of the Spurs biggest disappointments, made slightly less than Oberto.
I’m sure Oberto will get some interest from a few NBA teams, but unless a team signs to him to a ridiculous offer sheet like Jared Jeffries got last year, the Spurs will likely match.
In the case he does leave, we’ll make sure to send our Oberto Facts to a blogger from that team.
