Minus Parker, Spurs to face Mavericks at full strength

After Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard sat out Tuesday night in a loss to Minnesota, both players will be active as the San Antonio Spurs (49-16) will face the visiting Dallas Mavericks (30-33) today in the AT&T Center, minus their injured point guard Tony Parker.

Speaking of Parker, Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich believes Parker’s injury may not take the expected four weeks for him to recover.

“He’s doing fine,” said Popovich of Parker’s rehabilitation, “two weeks is tomorrow. I don’t think it’ll be that long.”

Popovich said aside from Parker walking on the treadmill, he’s already shooting too.

As for the Mavericks at hand, coach Popovich said they’re playing very well right now as they come in on a four-game winning streak. He credited Mavericks swingman Vince Carter in Dallas’ success as Carter has been playing more consistently this season.

Coach Carlise of the Mavericks called today’s game against the Spurs a “test.” Coach Carlisle also said the Spurs “come one after the other” even when a player is injured, like Parker.

Coach Carlisle said in order for his team to defeat the Spurs tonight, they’ll need to stop the Spurs’ play in transition as much as possible and he said his players will have to be “scrambling all night,” through screens and other formations.
