Both No 10. Notre Dame and No 1. Minnesota State advanced to the final round of the Albany Regional Tournament and will face off against each other tonight at 5:30 PM CT. The Mavericks (36-5-0), seeded No. 1 in the region and No. 2 overall (behind Michigan), were in the better spot. Their 4-3 semifinal victory over Harvard began at noon Thursday. Notre Dame’s semifinal began at 6 p.m., and the Irish needed overtime to eliminate North Dakota, 2-1.

Notre Dame had a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory against the North Dakota Fighting Hawks Thursday night. The game had a controversial moment when Notre Dame’s Adam Karashik scored a goal right a the regulation buzzer but after Notre Dame and celebrated their victory on the ice and a ten minute video review the goal was disallowed leaving the game tied 1-1 and the Fighting Irish were able to finish the game in overtime with a power play goal. Notre Dame’s Slaggert brothers were the only Fighting Irish players to “officially” score in the game Sophomore Landon Slaggert scored his goal in the beginning of the second period and his older brother Senior Graham Slaggert scored the overtime game winning goal. Look for a big game from both Slaggert brothers in tonight’s matchup against Minnesota State they will need to bring the A-games to take on the nations top ranked team. A victory against Minnesota State would mark the teams first Frozen Four appearance since 2018.

The Minnesota State Mankato confidently handled the Harvard Crimson in their 4-3 victory on Thursday morning. By the mid point of the second period Minnesota State had a 3-0 lead and were able to hold off Harvard’s late game comeback attempt.Minnesota States Connor Gregga and Reggie Lutz both had first period goals, and Brendan Furry scored the team’s only second period goal, and in the third period Ondrej Pavel scored the game winning goal securing Minnesota States 16th consecutive victory. This is also their 25th win in their last 26 games. If Notre Dame breaks their win streak tonight it will be a major upset and a huge news maker for the Frozen Four. A victory over Notre Dame tonight would bring the Mavericks back to the Frozen Four for the second year in a row. After being eliminated 5-4 by St. Cloud last year.
