Mills to play for Team Australia this summer

Not only will San Antonio Spurs' Tony Parker, Boris Diaw, Nando De Colo, and Marco Belinelli be playing this summer with their respective home country teams, it appears Patty Mills will also be suiting up for Team Australia.

The Spurs point guard Patty Mills will reportedly return to game action in August, just a few months since removing an abscess between his fourth and fifth toes on his right foot. Mills missed the final two games of the NBA Finals with the rare injury.

Mills will represent Australia in the World Championship Oceania qualifier — an international double-header against New Zealand — on August 14 and 18. In six games with the Boomers last year, Mills led the Olympics in scoring (21.2 points per game); the diminutive scoring point guard outscored established NBA players Kevin Durant and Manu Ginobili.

Australia's primary offensive fulcrum, Andrew Bogut, missed the entire London slate, and Mills inherited the bulk of the offensive burden — a feat that he managed well, even against the best international competition. Mills totaled 26 points, and four 3-pointers, in a 33-point loss to the United States of America.

Mills picked up his $1.13 million player option this offseason to remain with San Antonio, despite a logjam at his position likely contracting his role in Spurs coach Gregg Popovich's rotation.

With Mills on board for Team Australia, you have to wonder if Aron Baynes will also follow.

What do you think Spurs fans about a good number of Spurs players on the court this summer instead of resting and getting ready for next NBA season?
