After a tight 92-87 loss on the road in a crucial game vs. the Sioux Falls Skyforce, the Austin Spurs will have to regroup quickly as they face a fellow Texas opponent in the Texas Legends.

The Legends are currently 4-6, only three games back of Sioux Falls for the last playoff spot. These two teams are very familiar with each other, playing a handful of times already this season.

Austin’s playoff hopes are getting smaller with the losses adding up. They will need to step it up quickly before the margins become too big to overcome. Can they embark on a remarkable turnaround? The tip-off for tonight’s contest will be at 7:30 P.M. CST.

Austin Spurs Preview

In a game that could be crucial for the rest of the season, the Spurs fell just short on the night. Charles Bassey made his long-awaited return to the court in a big way with 28 points and seven rebounds. It is no doubt that Austin is a much better team with Bassey starting at center, and it showed in the tight loss on Tuesday night.

Blake Wesley continues to grow as the season progresses with 18 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Wesley is really coming into his own in Austin and gaining some great experience and staying sharp. Alize Johnson had eight points and seven rebounds off the bench as he continues to be a spark plug for the Spurs. Dominick Barlow also helped in the interior areas with six points and 12 rebounds.

The defense played by Austin was one of the better performances of the season, but offensively they just could not get total production from the whole squad. If they can work on playing a complete game, this team is one to watch for a late playoff push.

Texas Legends Preview

The Legends last played on January 21st in a close 121-117 win vs. the Oklahoma City Blue. Forward A.J. Lawson was on fire in this game, totaling 28 points and 13 rebounds, shooting 4-7 from three. Grant Riller also had 20 points and seven assists and has been a steady eddy for Texas this season. Tyler Hall, Tyler Moore, and Olin Carter III all had double-digit points off the bench.

Texas prides itself on playing explosive and exciting basketball, and like Austin, is in the hunt for a playoff spot too. This factor will only make this rivalry game even spicier, with both teams not being particularly keen on each other. A Lone Star State showdown that has potentially huge implications for both teams’ seasons is going to be one of the games of the year. Will Austin prevail and begin to really gain the momentum they’ve been seeking all season long?
