Danny Green only hit one shot all night, but it was no doubt the biggest for the San Antonio Spurs.
Green’s three combined with Kawhi Leonard’s game-winner lifted the Spurs to a 107-105 win over the Washington Wizards at the AT&T Center on Friday night.
Leonard led the Spurs with 23 points, including a jumper with six second left in regulation to win the game. LaMarcus Aldridge added 19 points and Pau Gasol also had 19 for San Antonio, who avoided a second straight home loss.
San Antonio overcame another slow start at home. The Silver and Black went down by 11 in the first quarter and trailed by four going into the second period.
The Wizards were led by Bradley Beal’s 23 points. Marcin Gortat added 21 points and 18 rebounds and John Wall chipped in 17 for Washington (6-11), who fell to 0-2 on their road trip.
“I don’t know, man. It’s the same thing,” Beal said. “We just have to figure it out. We get tired of saying we’re playing hard and we deserved to win the game but we didn’t win the game. So we just got to win.”
Wall tied the game at 105 apiece with a driving lay up after Green’s three moments earlier. But a defensive breakdown saw Leonard open for the game-winning jumper.
“It’s pretty frustrating,” Wall said. “We fought. We’re making strides. . . . Just got to find a way to get stops and give ourselves a chance to win the game.”
Up next: The Spurs are now 16-4 on the season and will return to the court on Monday night when they travel to Milwaukee to face the Bucks at 7 p.m.
