Prior to the San Antonio Spurs’ final preseason game in Houston against the Rockets Friday, San Antonio Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich informed the media All-Star forward Kawhi Leonard will not be ready to play in the Spurs’ regular season opener against Minnesota next Wednesday.

This, according to Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express News.

Leonard has already missed the entire Spurs preseason due to right quadriceps tendinopathy. As of Thursday, Manu Ginobili had said Leonard has yet to scrimmage with his teammates. He’s only been rehabbing according to Ginobili.

With Leonard out, Kyle Anderson or Rudy Gay will likely start at the small forward position next Wednesday.

Popovich said there still isn’t a timetable for when Leonard will return to the court.
