FRISCO – Wednesday night showed that the Austin Spurs left their defensive effort on vacation as they lost to the Texas Legends, 134-123.

Darrun Hilliard led the Spurs with 31 points on 11-for-17 shooting, while also notching five assists. Olivier Hanlan added in 22 points with Livio Jean-Charles chipping in another 15. Jaron Blossomgame had 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists.

Jameel Warney had a game-high 33 points for the Legends on 15-for-20 shooting. Jalen Jones scored 29 points while also having eight rebounds and four assists. Lastly, Johnathan Motley double-doubled with 23 points and 11 rebounds.

The Spurs started out strong in the first quarter behind Hilliard’s hot shooting. But Texas maintained control of the game with a 61 percent shooting first quarter.

Hilliard scored 10 points in the second quarter to pace Austin’s 42-point quarter, but defensive struggles remained a theme throughout as the Spurs held a slim 69-68 lead at halftime.

In the third, the Legends had a 42-point quarter of their own, blowing the game wide open. Legends forward Xavier Johnson scored 11 points in just four minutes as Texas extended its lead over Austin to 15.

A feeble comeback attempt by the Spurs was ended by Warney’s 12 points in the final frame as Texas held on for the 11-point win.
