Kyle Anderson’s return to the Los Angeles area was a successful one, as the Austin Spurs defeated the Los Angeles D-Fenders 118-116 on Saturday night. The victory, which was their ninth in a row, keeps the Spurs atop the D-League standings at 25-9.

The Spurs were led by the recently reassigned Kyle Anderson, who continued his double-double tear with 26 points and 13 rebounds to go along with four assists. Erik Murphy also added 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Orlando Johnson added 19 points and nine rebounds.

For the D-Fenders, Jabari Brown led all scores for Los Angeles with 32 points, while former San Diego State University product, Jamaal Franklin, dominated with 27 points and 13 rebounds for the D-Fenders.

The box score indicates how close Saturday night’s game was, as the Austin Spurs led throughout most of the contest, including the entire second half. The D-Fenders fourth quarter rally would put them within one point of the Spurs a couple of times, getting as close as 102-101 with just over six minutes left in the game, but the Spurs would ride Kyle Anderson and Erik Murphy’s offense down the stretch to the win, and seal it with a pair of Bryce Cotton free throws.

During the nine game winning streak for the Spurs, they’ve beaten opponents by an average of six points per game, while their scoring average has been 117 points per game.

The Spurs will end their five game road trip on Tuesday night, as they take on the always dangerous Santa Cruz Warriors (21-13), before returning back home on Thursday to take on the Reno Bighorns.

Tuesday’s tipoff versus the Warriors is at 9:00pm EST from the Kaiser Permanente Arena.
